In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species in 2009, the Emory College Center for Science Education brings you this exciting opportunity to join other educators to discuss the challenges and best practices of teaching evolution in high school classrooms. Details: This two-day event consists of a Teacher Workshop on October 23 & the Evolution Revolution Public Symposium on October 23-24. All events will take place at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. See schedule for Workshop details. The Public Symposium will explore the future of evolution as a theory and a process and the potential of recent research to transform our lives. The keynote address on Thursday evening will feature E. O. Wilson, one of the world's greatest living scientists, on "Darwin and the Future of Biology." Learn more about the symposium. All Symposium events are open to the public with online registration. Those interested in attending only the Public Symposium events should register at the Symposium's website (registration opens Sept 10). Those interested in attending the Teacher Workshop and Symposium events need only apply here by clicking "register" on the left. Deadline: Application / Registration deadline was September 15, 2008 Selection Criteria: The workshop is limited to 50 participants. Applicants will be selected based on the merit of their online application. Preference will be given to teams of teachers from the same school and teachers who will attend all events (i.e., the October 23 Workshop and keynote address and the October 24 Public Symposium). Stipend: Participants
will receive a stipend of $200, pre-tax, for each day
of participation, as well as the appropriate number
of Professional Learning Units. |
