After the Summer Institute, the teacher-fellow teams continue to work
collaboratively on their problems and cases. The teams publish their case
materials online for distribution to colleagues worldwide. In late
July, the teams present their accomplishments before an audience of
their
peers, principals, superintendents, and faculty mentors.
During the school year, PRISM Fellows work both inside the classroom,
facilitating student learning, and behind the scenes, developing new
problems and cases to meet the
national- and state-mandated learning objectives. Graduate students spend
10 hours per week in further development and implementation
of their cases, 6 hours of which are spent in the classroom.
Undergraduate fellows join the teams, helping to facilitate
the problems and cases. This first hand experience
in the classroom is supplemented by guidance in urban
education provided by the Math and Science Coordinators
of each district. In weekly reflection sessions, the
graduate and undergraduate fellows discuss their delights,
insights, and concerns with the PRISManagement.
At the same time, teachers meet monthly for reflection sessions with their
district science coordinators.
