Student Development
We estimate that our programs have directly or indirectly affected well over 100,000 students. Our programs spanning elementary to graduate-level science education have introduced underrepresented pre-college students to Emory and to the academic rigor of college life. Our undergraduate programs have provided research opportunities, as well as mentoring and advising, to hundreds of students. And our programs for graduate students have helped prepare dozens of future faculty members. We are also particularly proud that Emory faculty now come to us to help them create programs for Center grants, CAREER awards and support for new student outreach programs.

We provide opportunities for summer research and mentoring and academic support for underrepresented minority science students at Emory.

Student Development Program Accolades
We have received recognition from the Blank Foundation, two A+ awards from the Atlanta Partners for Education, a joint venture of the Metro Atlanta Chamber and Atlanta Public Schools, and recognition and partnerships with Project GRAD, the Georgia Bio Education group, the Lumina Foundation and several metro school districts. ECCSE’s outreach programs have contributed to Emory’s 2006 classification as an "Engaged Institution" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in both of the possible categories: "Curricular Engagement" and "Outreach and Partnerships."
Additionally, our community outreach programs contributed to Emory’s 2008 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll award. Our PREP program was one of the featured community outreach programs in Emory’s application.
