Biology faculty members including Drs. Finnerty, Stokes,
Eisen, Marsteller, Mills, Orloff, and Spell are revising Biology
141 (Cell and Developmental Biology with Lab). This course is taken
by a high percentage of Emory undergraduates since it is a foundation
for future biological study and a requirement for many professional
schools. Since this course is meant to prepare students for future
study, the faculty wanted to revise the course in order to prepare
Emory University students for successful scholarship and leadership
in the 21st century. Problem-based learning will be implemented
into the course, which will be interactive, inter-disciplinary,
and inquiry-driven. The revised version of the course will be taught
during the fall 2005 semester under the name Foundations of Modern
Biology with Lab.
