Dr. David Collart and Ms. Linda Suggs of the
Biology Department at Clark Atlanta University worked on developing
web pages and interactive cases for a biochemistry unit that is
part of the academic pre-season bridge program. This reaches over
80 prefreshmen. David states,"Linda Sugg and I have learned a number
of useful ways to integrate technology into the classroom and have
actually utilized them for my biochemistry class and for the academic
pre-season, which I will be teaching this summer." They developed
labs and 5 webcases on crime and smuggling. The crime workshop and
lab looks at how biology is used to solve crimes, and also take
a look at how the instrumentation required relys on math, physics,
and engineering. The smuggling workshop and lab examines how the
cell solves the problem of smuggling (transporting) nutrients, ions,
and biomolecules across membranes and cell walls. The projects they
are working on integrate biology, chemistry and math. To see some

This summer Dave and Linda will finish the development
of the biochemistry web page and the academic pre-season page. They
will design interactive web page for an advanced biochemistry course,
which would allow the students to follow the biochemical changes
which take place in the body during starvation, and also at the
onset of diabetes.
Linda Suggs is a research assistant in Dr. CollartÕs
lab. At the end of our sessions, she stated, " I always thought
IÕd hate teaching, but using cases and technology really makes it
fun!"
