Dr. Isabella Finkelstein,
Chair of Biology at Clark Atlanta University and Dr.
Melvin Webb, also of Biology, worked on accumulating cases and
simulations for teaching introductory Biology. Isabella and Melvin
were the least experienced computer users in the course, but they
expressed great delight with all they learned and could immediately
put to use. They were particularly taken with the interactive case
workshop and with the amount of material that was already "out there"
on the web. This summer they will continue to develop a web version
for the fall rendition of the course. CAU is using WebCT, so they
learned its advantages and disadvantages. Dr. Finkelstein also decided
to get First Class, the software that supports our LearnLink, bulletin
board, since she was convinced of its advantages for building community
among science students and faculty and its real utility for case
discussions.
