Dr. James Snyder (Chemistry, Emory) developed CHEM 470 (Chemistry, Biology, and Molecular Modeling) last year. He has now taught the class to one group of students and will teach it again this spring. This class explores the subjects in the title by integrating laws of nature, world-wide trends, economic forces, cultural mores, and personalities in science. New materials, disease, medicine, the environment and science-technology applications across society are the foundation. Each category is illuminated by considerations such as cell structure, gene chips, robotics, anatomy, imaging, epidemiology, demographics, risk factors, environmental effects, implications of molecular structure and chemical synthesis.
