Is there a question that you've always had but didn't
know how to ask? Well, it's time to quit hiding—we want to
know what's on YOUR mind! Science is about asking questions and
so is this seminar. It's about learning how to ask and answer your
own questions, and it's also about the questions that we've been
asking. In this seminar you'll learn about cutting edge scientific
questioning going on in laboratories here at Emory. It is taught
by the experts who have made the discoveries. Past topics have included
stress in the wild, what is happening in stem cell research, how
to detoxify chemical warfare agents, and how researchers are studying
the origins of life itself, to name a few. We'll engage in open
discussions, get our hands dirty doing the experiments researchers
do, and take trips to the sites where discoveries are made. Throughout
the course you will learn to ask and answer good questions with
the mentoring of research experts.
This year's class will include an exciting new mix
of physical, biological, and social sciences. Science doesn't happen
in a vacuum—it happens in a confusing world where women and
men struggle with the ethical and societal consequences of their
work. Are you ready to ask questions?
No previous background in science required.
