Through this three day workshop, Atlanta
Public School middle school teachers review the
basic principles of the scientific method, and work in teams
to produce mock science
fair projects that demonstrate the concepts of hypothesis testing,
sample size, controls, and critical evaluation of data. Each
teacher
creates a lesson plan involving the scientific method and/or
science fair projects while meeting state-mandated
standards for science inquiry. Each teacher also
develops a plan to share the new materials and pedagogy gained
from this workshop with their school colleagues. By acheiving
the workshop's goals,
participants come away with innovative
lessons, novel teaching strategies, and a
network
of supportive
peers.
Participants receive up to $300 pre-tax and 2.0
Professional Learning Units, plus an additional stipend upon completion
of a follow-up assessment during the fall semester.
The 2004 ECAS Workshop was conducted July 21-23.
Through this website, you can explore the workshop's schedule
