Juanice Woodall, anatomy and physiology teacher at Southside High School in Atlanta Public Schools, took advantage of this opportunity to develop curricula and logistics for a new Health Science and Engineering Academy at the school.

As Academy Leader, Woodall was responsible for the development of all components of the academy, from course and materials selection to staff development and student recruitment. Woodall spent many hours researching and contacting schools across the country for advice on best practices. She recruited individuals from the American Red Cross and the Emory First Responders Unit EMS to teach a CPR class. She negotiated summer internships and guest speakers from the Morehouse School of Medicine. She reviewed various textbooks and developed course syllabi for each academy class that would be offered. She even planned lessons for the academy classes so that the teachers she recruited could be better prepared to take on this new responsibility.
