For Emory students, a completed application packet includes the following items:

  1. a completed application form (hard copy, can be downloaded from this site, see below)

  2. a completed web form --> this is different from item #1 above!

  3. a transcript (may be unofficial)

  4. a 3-page long research proposal, typed, that follows the Research Proposal Guildelines listed below.

  5. a letter of recommendation from the faculty mentor in whose laboratory you wish to work.

Downloading application materials for Emory students:

You can get an application form through this page. The process involves downloading a file to your computer. We offer these files in two formats:

2003EU.rtf - This file is compatible with a wide variety of operating systems. Your word processing program should be able to open this file and you should be able to type the information directly into the form, then print the completed form.

2003EU.pdf - The file in pdf format can be opened using Acrobat Reader(tm). Most browsers will launch this program if available. You can download the Acrobat Reader at no cost:

Remember, you can e-mail us at srp@learnlink.emory.edu to request a hard copy of the application materials, or you can pick up a copy at our office (1399 Oxford Rd.,we are in the red brick house).

Tips for Emory University Applicants:

  • For Emory applicants, the research proposal is a critical component. Because Emory students have access to our research faculty year-round, these students have ample time to contact prospective mentors and discuss their proposed projects. The goal of the SURE program is to allow Emory students an opportunity to dedicate time to research without the typical distractions encountered during the academic semesters. It is our hope that applicants will be involved in research not only through SURE but during the school year as well.

  • See our tips for identifying a research mentor.
  • In the letter of recommendation, the research mentor should discuss the student's research potential. These letters will help us identify particularly promising students.

If you have problems downloading any documents, contact us. In your message, please indicate the computer platform are using (e.g., Mac, Windows, Unix) and also indicate the version of the web browser you were using. This information can help us pinpoint the source of the problem.
